Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna Parliamentarians Sanath Nishantha and Milan Jayathileke have been arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department a short while ago.
The duo was arrested in relation to instigating the violence and unrest reported on the 9th of May opposite the Temple Trees and at Galle Face.
The two MPs were arrested following yesterday’s instructions by the Attorney General to Inspector General of Police CD Wickramaratne to record statements and arrest 22 individuals, including former Ministers, in connection with the attack on protesters on the 9th of May.
The group includes Parliamentarians Johnston Fernando, Sanath Nishantha, Milan Jayathilake and Sanjeeva Edirimanna, Senior DIG-Western Province Deshabandu Tennakoon, Moratuwa Mayor Saman Lal Fernando, Mahinda Kahandagama and Dan Priyasad.
The Attorney General’s Department said an extract of its investigations into the incidents has also been submitted to the Criminal Investigation Department.
