Leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa has requested the European Union not to withdraw the Generalised Scheme of Preferences Plus trade concession granted to Sri Lanka under any duress.
The request was made during a discussion between the Opposition Leader and a visiting delegation of the EU yesterday.
Parliamentarian Lakshman Kiriella said the focus of the talks was human rights, the rule of law and civil rights.
MP Premadasa requested the EU delegation not to terminate the GSP+ concession regardless of the issues that arise, taking into consideration the country’s citizens.
The EU representatives also met with Minister of Justice Ali Sabry and representatives of the Tamil National Alliance and the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress yesterday.
