Leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa has questioned the crackdown on peaceful protesters such as trade union leader Joseph Stalin, when former Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, who is a main reason behind the present turmoil, being allowed to remain free.
MP Premadasa said he condemns the arbitrary political witch-hunting.
Speaking to media after visiting Joseph Stalin at the Colombo Fort Police Station, MP Premadasa expressed hope that Court will grant Stalin bail.
The Opposition Leader claimed that all individuals have the Constitutional right to peaceful assembly, showing dissent, freedom of expression, and political rights.
He noted that there should be no place for violence as well.
