Leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa has directed a letter to President Gotabaya Rajapaksa stating his willingness to form a short term government with other parties led by the Samagi Jana Alliance under four agreements and to assume the post of Prime Minister.
The proposals include agreeing to step down as President during a specific timeframe, and re-enacting content of the 19th Amendment to the Constitution with the support of all parties within a two week period.
The third proposal includes passing a 21st Amendment to the Constitution, which has already been tabled in Parliament and gazetted, that will see the abolition of the Executive Presidency, also during a short time span.
The final proposal includes holding Parliamentary Elections to form a stable government, stabilising livelihoods, and establishing the rule of law and implementing the Constitutional reforms.
MP Premadasa said the Samagi Jana Balawegaya and himself have a stringent and clear plan to enforce Constitutional reforms and to prevent the economy from faltering further in the future.
The Opposition Leader speaking to media said he is prepared to discuss the framework for the formation of a new government and the swearing in of a new government tomorrow.
