Leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa says a fraudulent agreement pertaining to fuel has been entered into with a South African firm which will lead to an increase in electricity tariffs.

Speaking during an event in Minuwangoda, the Opposition Leader said the agreement was signed to purchase fuel at a higher price than the current market price and to obtain more fuel than the country’s requirement.

MP Premadasa said Minister Namal Rajapaksa recommended that the agreement be considered.

He said while the nation is facing hardships,  while being forced to stand in queues, the government is formulating plans to profit.

The Opposition Leader said the Cabinet Spokesman claimed electricity tariffs will not be increased adding however this agreement will lead to an increase.
