Leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa has held discussions with several parties involved in a comprehensive program to boost the tourism industry.
The Opposition Leader said the tourism industry generates an annual income of USD 4.5 billion adding over 500,000 individuals are directly employed in the industry while over three million individuals are employed indirectly.
MP Premadasa saidthe sector however is facing many crises at present.
A lengthy discussion was held at the Office of the Leader of the Opposition yesterday pertaining to the issues faced by the tourism industry at present and how the industry can overcome the situation.
Speaking during a discussion with representatives of the Hotels Association of Sri Lanka, the Opposition Leader said as the opposition, the Samagi Jana Balawegaya will urge the government to look into the issues and also call on international communities to develop the tourism industry.
He said there are many stakeholders in the tourism industry claiming the SJB will strive to provide their maximum assistance to overcome the crises faced by the industry.
