The Department of Excise says steps will be taken to paste a safety sticker on all liquor bottles and cans in the country by the 1st of April.
Media Spokesman of the Excise Department Commissioner of Excise Kapila Kumarasinghe said operations in this regard have commenced under several stages.
He said the Excise Department has established a safety seal management system to paste or apply the safety seal on all imported and locally produced liquor bottles and cans sold in Sri Lanka.
He added that since the 3rd of January licensed distilleries in the country commenced pasting safety stickers or applying digital safety seals on liquor bottles and cans.
Kumarasinghe said the stickers are also being pasted on liquor bottles and cans at wholesale storages and storages of distilleries, and at licensed retail outlets that sell liquor.
He stated legal provisions granted a three-month grace period to paste the sticker on all liquor bottles and cans in the market, from the 1st of January.
He noted the main aim of the programme is to ensure the government is able to collect taxes imposed on liquor without any discrepancies.
