Health professionals in the Sabaragamuwa Province have decided to launch a trade union action from 7am today.
Accordingly, medical laboratory professionals, complementary medical service professionals, nursing officers as well as supplementary medical service professionals will be part of the strike.
The trade union is expected to disrupt operations at three Teaching and General Hospitals, six Base Hospitals, 32 Rural Hospitals and 19 offices of Medical Officer of Health in the Sabaragamuwa Province.
Speaking to media, President of the Academy of Health Professionals Ravi Kumudesh said a number of other health professional unions will also be part of the trade union action in the Sabaragamuwa Province today.
He said they are alerting the authorities over their concerns before staging an indefinite strike.
Ravi Kumudesh said they will also stage a protest rally today in Ratnapura and educate the public on the reasons behind the trade union action.
