The National People’s Power says despite a Rs.600 million allocation for three-wheeler owners, a three-wheeler owner, in reality, will only receive Rs.750.
Parliamentarian Vijith Herath speaking during day one of the debate on the second reading of the 2022 Budget said, Rs.600 million when divided amongst 800,000 three-wheeler owners in the country, amounts to Rs.750 per owner.
MP Herath also said the reduction of 5 litres from the fuel allocation for each of the 70 odd Ministers amounts to a total of 350 litres, adding that with Rs.157 per litre of fuel, the government only saves around Rs.50,000.
Therefore, MP Herath questioned the government as to who they intend on deceiving and called for genuine concessions to be granted to the public to ease their burden.
He stated that the public will not be deceived by the government’s temporary plasters on various issues in the country adding the economy cannot be recovered through such measures.
