The Consumer Coordinating Union of the Ceylon Electricity Board says the facts revealed before the Committee on Public Enterprise that Rs.3.68 billion was paid as allowances to CEB Consumer Coordinators over two years is false.
National Organiser Dhilip Sampath Bandara addressing a media briefing in Kandy said around Rs.60 million is required to pay allowances of 2,800 Consumer Coordinators for two years.
Bandara requested the COPE Chairman to conduct a formal inquiry into the statement made by CEB officials on the 22nd of June.
He requested the COPE to inquire into the balance Rs.3.62 billion and questioned the reasons behind such a statement linked to Consumer Coordinators.
Bandara commenting on the allowances of Consumer Coordinators said the public questioned the accuracy of such claims and requested consumers to refrain from believing such statements.
He said a Rs.1,000 allowance is granted to Consumer Coordinators adding that if three errors are made the sum is waived off as a penalty.
