The Agriculture and Agrarian Insurance Board says Rs.210 million has been paid as compensation to farmers whose crops were damaged during the 2021 Yala season.
Compensation was paid for damages to paddy, maize, soya, potatoes, big onions, and chilli cultivations.
Under the insurance programme a sum of Rs.210 million was awarded to 8,678 farmers as compensation, subject to a maximum of Rs.40,000 per acre, free of premiums.
Farmers who have formally applied for compensation and have not been compensated by the 8th of April have been requested to submit an appeal to the District Office of the Agriculture and Agrarian Insurance Board through the respective Agrarian Services Centre.
