A consignment of 170.8kg of heroin valued at Rs. 1,575 million which was seized in seas off the Southern Coast has been brought to the Colombo Port.
The Sri Lanka Navy said nine foreign nationals who were arrested during the raids were also brought to Colombo today.
Based on information uncovered from two previous operations, the Navy with the support of the Sri Lanka Police had conducted the raid and intercepted the vessel in southern seas.
The Navy said it suspects multi-day fishing trawlers are used to transport narcotics into the country from racketeers operating from international water.
Meanwhile, the gross street value of the heroin seized during major drug busts by the Navy since the 30th of August is believed to be over Rs. 7 billion.
