The Opposition has requested the government to hold a secret ballot in Parliament pertaining to the proposed organic fertiliser due to imported from China.
The Opposition alleged that investigations revealed the stock of organic fertiliser contains a number of toxic chemicals that are harmful for consumption while the government has concealed several investigation reports pertaining to the matter.
Speaking in Parliament today, Samagi Jana Balawegaya Parliamentarian Rohini Kumari Wijerathna said the government has vested the Colombo Port City with China, the Kerawalapitiya Yugadanavi Power Plant with the United States and the West Container Terminal of the Colombo Port with India’s Adani Group, all the while misleading the public.
She questioned the silence of self-proclaimed patriots.
MP Wijerathna said they are against the destruction of the country adding fertiliser is a requirement in order provide food for the public.
The Parliamentarian said the report which was released on the 8th states that microorganisms, identified as ‘Erwinia’ and ‘Bacillus’, can be found in the fertiliser adding it is not sterilised.
MP Wijerathna questioned the status of the report, to identify whether there is any radioactive material sent to the Sri Lanka Atomic Energy Board.
