Small and medium-scale Rice Mill owners claim that all past governments have supported and taken care of the wellbeing of large scale Rice Mill owners.
Chairman of the All Ceylon Small and Medium Scale Rice Mill Owners’ Association Nishantha Bandara said they are facing many hardships due to the country’s economic situation.
Speaking to media in Dambulla he said they are not envious of large scale rice mill owners but added that the government must stop taking decisions that are only favorable to such businessmen.
Nishantha Bandara pointed out that the competition within the industry was officially a 65:35 split with large scale rice mill owners, but added that unofficially the government was also on the side of large scale owners.
He stressed that they cannot compete with such a force in the rice market.
Bandara claimed that all governments supported the large scale rice mill owners.
A group of polythene sack manufacturers were also present at the media briefing who said they will have to increase the price of a single sack by Rs.35 due to increases in fuel and the dollar appreciating.
