The JVP says Minister of Finance Basil Rajapaksa must reveal how he obtained funds to provide other benefits including the allowance of Rs.5,000 to state employees.
Speaking to media after visiting the Chief Prelates of the Asgiriya Chapter today, Leader of the JVP Parliamentarian Anura Kumara Dissanayake said more issues will arise in future, if the government continues to print money.
MP Dissanayake said the government passed the 2022 Budget in Parliament on the 10th of December through which expenditure heads are included.
He said at the time Minister Rajapaksa said the country is facing three main issues.
The MP said under these circumstances Parliament has a right to know how the government sourced the funds.
MP Dissanayake said the present administration has printed large sums of money adding this has led to the daily increase in prices of goods and services.
He said the relief package could provide relief or lead to a disaster depending on the source of funds.
On a separate note, commenting on the removal of Susil Premajayantha from his post as State Minister, MP Dissanayake said the President was startled by the comments made by the former State Minister and the Secretary to the Ministry of Agriculture.
The Parliamentarian said this was not characteristics of an authoritarian but of someone who was afraid.
Furthermore, when questioned by media over no action being taken against State Minister Nimal Lanza and former President Maithripala Sirisena who made scathing comments against the government, the MP said the present administration will protect individuals they deem beneficial.
He said the former President has nothing to lose but the Parliament seat adding he possesses knowledge that can affect the present administration.
