The Malwathu and Asgiriya Anu Nayake thera have requested teacher trade unions to resume education activities of students, just as they are pursuing their struggle to address the teacher principal salary anomalies.
Speaking to media in Kandy, Anu Nayake thera of the Malwathu Chapter venerable Dibulkubure Wimaladharma thera said allowing children to go astray from education for two months is a great crime against all Sri Lankans.
The venerable added the country’s future are the children and earnestly requested teachers, who the thera said are compared to God’s, to think of the wellbeing of students and resume teaching.
Meanwhile, Asgiriya Anu Nayake thera venerable Narampanawe Ananda thera urged trade unions to resume online teaching by extending some flexibility to solutions provided by the government to teacher principal demands.
The venerable acknowledged that teachers’ salary concerns have not been addressed over a lengthy period of time by many government’s.
However the Anu Nayake thera claimed the government amidst challenges posed by COVID-19 have provided a favourable solution.
The venerable stated students have been affected due to COVID for two years adding that teachers play a significant role in students lives.
Therefore venerable Ananda thera urged trade unions to think of students and temporarily suspend the struggle.
