The Samagi Jana Balawegaya claims the economic crisis cannot be resolved by imposing restrictions alone.
Speaking during a media briefing today, Parliamentarian Imthiaz Bakeer Markar said the current financial crisis was caused due to the government providing tax concessions to the wealthy after coming into power.
MP Markar said Cabinet Sub-Committees are being appointed to beg for support from China, India, and Middle Eastern countries.
The Parliamentarian said all such loans obtained must be repaid-with interest.
He questioned why the government has failed to obtain advice from experts.
MP Markar said the agriculture and health crisis are both self-created issues.
He said the agriculture crisis was caused due to sudden arbitrary decisions adding the export income collapsed, while incomes of the entire farming community were affected.
He said a majority of the public lost sources of income while poverty rose leading to hunger and malnutrition.
On a separate note, MP Imthiaz Bakeer Markar said there are concerns over hidden motives behind the Personal Data Protection Bill.
He said the bill which was passed in Parliament yesterday poses a serious threat to media and all public rights.
MP Markar said personal data protection is essential adding however the Authority being established through the Act is not independent.
Furthermore, the MP said forces hoping for the longevity of the present administration have commenced attacks against the Archbishop of Colombo Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith.
MP Markar said these groups are attempting to create negative sentiments against Catholics, similar to negative sentiments shared over Tamils and Muslims by questioning why his Eminence went before the international community.
He said while these issues can be solved within the country, matters are being forced to be taken before the international community.
The Parliamentarian said it was not the Cardinal, nor the Tamil community that began the practice of taking matters to Geneva, but Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa.
