The All Island Canteen Owners Association charges that restaurant owners are unable to obtain a 5kg gas cylinder.
Speaking to NewsRadio, President of the Association Asela Sampath said only larger sizes of gas cylinders are available in the market.
Sampath said restaurant owners are facing a number of other issues as well.
He said gas distributors however have taken steps to provide domestic gas cylinders for commercial use due to media scrutiny and demands by trade unions.
Sampath said the industry is on the brink of collapse due to food inflation caused by price hikes of essential items.
He said staff have also left the industry due to financial difficulties adding they do not receive concessions from the government.
Sampath said the public is facing hardships in sourcing meals adding canteen owners are extremely stressed.
