Former Minister Mervyn Silva has urged officials to summon leaders of teacher trade unions for discussions and request them to give the government additional time to address their concerns.

Speaking during an event in Matara Silva said he believes that teachers will understand, if officials promise to resolve their concerns, and request time at least until the COVID-19 pandemic is contained.

He said teachers have taken to the streets based on justified demands, adding that it is not a struggle against children.
