The Lanka Private Bus Owners Association says it is ready to take over the responsibility of transporting students who will sit for the 2021 GCE Ordinary Level Examination on Monday if a program is formulated to promptly provide diesel for buses.
Speaking during a media briefing today, President Gemunu Wijeratne said he will accept the responsibility to transport students if the government takes the necessary steps to provide diesel.
On a separate note, Wijeratne said the program to obtain diesel through the Sri Lanka Transport Board is not practical.
He therefore, requested that one filling station in every city be reserved for private buses.
The President of the Association said SLTB offices are closed by 5pm whereas private buses are in operation till late adding therefore it is impractical.
Wijeratne said there are many issues pertaining to obtaining fuel from SLTB.
He said priority must be given to provide fuel to private buses adding all issues pertaining to transport will be solved.
