The All Ceylon Transport Employees’ Association has requested the President to intervene promptly and provide employees of the Sri Lanka Transport Board an allowance of Rs.5,000.
Speaking to NewsRadio, President of the Association Sepala Liyanage said they are seeking solutions to several demands including salary increments with effect from 2018, the revision of salaries of officers with effect from 2018 and settling salary arrears.
Liyanage said they will resort to stern union action if there is no intervention to provide solutions to their demands.
He said SLTB employees are facing a dire financial crisis.
He added the government informed that the Rs.5,000 allowance will be provided to state institutions including Boards adding however no decision has been reached to provide the allowance to SLTB employees.
Liyanage noted that SLTB employees fulfilled their duties during the COVID-19 pandemic disregarding their own safety.
