The opposition has called for all gas cylinders in which the propane and butane compositions were changed, to be removed from the market.
Speaking during a media briefing in Colombo Parliamentarian Hesha Withanage said it was revealed that the changed composition was unsuitable for the country.
The MP added the real situation cannot be revealed to the public adding however that the relevant gas cylinders must be recalled to ease the burden of the public.
MP Withanage claimed as usual the Head of State appointed a Presidential Commission of Inquiry to investigate the incident and called for a report to be submitted within two weeks, and established the 1311 hotline.
He questioned how effective such measures were and whether it was a solution, adding that the issue was worsening each day.
On a separate note, MP Hesha Withanage also condemned the proposal tabled by State Minister of Indigenous Medicine Promotion, Rural and Ayurvedic Hospitals Development and Community Health Sisira Jayakody yesterday, to export hemp to uplift and strengthen the economy.
The MP claimed it was a shameful move, and urged the government to refrain from selling the country’s culture.
MP Jayakody requested Parliament to refrain from reaching decisions that will destroy the Buddhist civilization.
