A group of religious leaders have issued a joint statement regarding views expressed by a group of senior police officers who had been named in the report compiled by the Presidential Commission of Investigation appointed to investigate the Easter Sunday attacks, during a media briefing.
The statement was issued with the signatures of several Buddhist, Christian and Muslim religious leaders.
Police officers speaking to media claimed attempts are underway to frame them as perpetrators of the bombings as they are Sinhala Buddhists.
Issuing a joint statement, religious leaders said they condemn the statement as it has an agenda to undermine the investigations and legal proceedings pertaining to the Easter attacks as being racially motivated.
Religious leaders requested officials to conduct investigations and legal proceedings pertaining to the attacks without any political interference and without being affected by extremist claims.
