President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has instructed officials to release all imported essential items from ports without any delays, considering the prevailing situation in the country.
President Rajapaksa issued the directives during a review meeting held today with officials of the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Aviation.
The President also emphasised the importance of improving the efficiency of the Colombo Port and win the confidence of the international community.
All major shipping companies are currently using the Colombo Port.
The Head of State also noted that the Ports Authority, the management and employees must responsibly discharge their duties at this juncture.
President Gotabaya Rajapaksa also proposed to establish a training unit at the Colombo Harbour to prepare the youth for foreign employment.
The President’s Media Division said the President and officials also discuss the development of the second Terminal of the Bandaranaike International Airport and the Colombo East Container Terminal.
