The Registration of Electors Amendment Bill that included the right to vote for all citizens over the age of 18, was passed in Parliament with amendments today.
In addition, an order under the Employees Provident Fund Amendment Bill and the Employees Provident Fund Act were passed without amendments in Parliament.
Joining the debate on the Registration of Electors Amendment Bill, Secretary General of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna, Parliamentarian Sagara Kariyawasam said there is a tendency for the country’s youth to hold negative views pertaining to the political system.
MP Kariyawasam said such anti-democratic views are being exchanged adding that a certain group is engaged in creating such misconceptions among the youth.
He called on individuals who respect democracy to stand against such measures.
