The National People’s Power (NPP) has announced that it is prepared to be part of an interim administration in order to resolve the current political and economic crisis.
The NPP today presented a short-term plan for the political crisis and a proposal to resolve the existing issues permanently.
According to the resolution, the NPP is of the view that the Head of State must tender his resignation promptly.
The NPP proposal said the Speaker of the House must be appointed as the Acting President temporarily while a new government should be formed within six months with a new mandate.
Speaking during a media briefing today, the Leader of the NPP Parliamentarian Anura Kumara Dissanayake said President Gotabaya Rajapaksa must step down since no decision reached by the Head of State ensured stability within the country.
He said once the President steps down, the Speaker will be appointed as the temporary Head of State according to the Constitution.
MP Dissanayake claimed that the current Parliament must be dissolved since it has lost the public mandate.
The Parliamentarian is of the view that the public will not accept any interim government or all-party government established within the present Parliament.
He said the public must be given an opportunity to the public to establish a new government.
Furthermore, MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake said his party is ready to form an interim government until a new Parliament and government can be voted in within six months.
The MP said the NPP proposes two interim options until such time.
He claimed the National People’s Power is capable of undertaking the responsibility to end the prevailing crisis and bring the country towards a new path.
The Parliamentarian called for an interim government headed by the NPP to be established with the Parliament without any hindrance.
MP Dissanayake claimed all parties representing the Parliament must extend their support to establish a government under the NPP since they only have three MPs.
The MP is of the view that his party is capable of resolving the prevailing crisis.
