Former Member of Parliament Ranjan Ramanayake has been sentenced to a two-year rigorous imprisonment, suspended for five years over the second contempt of court charge.
NewsRadio court correspondent said Ranjan Ramanayake pled guilty to the contempt of court charge during today’s hearing at the Supreme Court.
Accordingly the sentence was pronounced by a three-member of bench comprising of Justices Buwaneka Aluwihare, LTB Dehideniya and Gamini Amarasekara.
The case was filed on a statement made by Ranjan Ramanayake during the 2018 constitutional coup.
The bench has issued a lenient sentence since Ranjan Ramanayake pled guilty to the charge.
