Leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa says the Inter-Parliamentary Union is representing former Parliamentarian Ranjan Ramanayake, based on nine points.
Speaking to media after visiting Ranjan Ramanayake at the Welikada Prison, the Opposition Leader said Ramanayake who spoke the truth on behalf of the people is imprisoned, while those accused of several frauds are free.
MP Premadasa reiterated his calls for Ramanayake’s release.
The Opposition Leader claimed Ranjan Ramanayake did not hesitate to speak up for the people and their rights, adding such an individual should not be in prison.
The Opposition Leader said he spoke to President Gotabaya Rajapaksa on several occasions and requested him to release Ranjan Ramanayake on humanitarian grounds, with all civic rights.
He added the opposition will take all democratic steps including taking to the streets, to ensure Ramanayake’s freedom.
