State Minister Piyal Nishantha Silva says his personal opinion is that former Parliamentarian Ranjan Ramanayake who is currently imprisoned after being found guilty on contempt of court charges, should be given a Presidential Pardon.

Speaking to media after visiting the Temple of the Tooth Relic, State Minister Silva said however further action will be taken regarding Ranjan Ramanayake, by adhering to  laws and regulations of Sri Lanka.

The State Minister said it was his personal opinion that the former Parliamentarian must be pardoned, while protecting the integrity of the law in Sri Lanka.

Responding to media queries over the formation of a new alliance led by the Sri Lanka Freedom Party, the State Minister said they are a formidable coalition led by the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna.

The State Minister claimed that the SLPP led by Minister Basil Rajapaksa included former members of the SLFP to form the alliance.

He said the SLPP-led alliance received an overwhelming mandate at previous elections.
