The United National Party says the use of a large number of aircrafts and vehicles for the Independence Day celebrations when the country is facing difficulties in sourcing fuel is a serious concern.
Speaking to media, the General Secretary of the UNP former Parliamentarian Palitha Range Bandara said the amount of fuel spent for aircrafts and vehicles used for the Independence Day celebrations must be considered.
Bandara said the country is facing a shortage of dollars and the government is struggling to source foreign exchange.
The UNP General Secretary noted that the present administration is even attempting to obtain fuel from the Indian Oil Company by paying its due using Sri Lanka rupees.
He said the government’s decision to gather large crowds and spend a large amount of money on the Independence Day celebrations is concerning for both the economic and health sectors.
