The JVP has commended President Gotabaya Rajapaksa for his assurance to the international community at the United Nations General Assembly that there will be no recurrence of terrorism in Sri Lanka.
Speaking during a media briefing this morning, Parliamentarian Vijitha Herath said the first step in preventing a reemergence of terrorism in Sri Lanka was to expeditiously punish the perpetrators of the Easter attacks.
MP Herath urged the government to conduct a stringent investigation into the matter opposed to leading the investigation astray, criticising Archbishop of Colombo Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith or fuelling racism.
The Parliamentarian added despite the President’s assurances to the international community, racism and extremism are being sown by various parties.
He said the statement made by certain individuals in Sri Lanka contradicts the President’s statement to the international community.
MP Herath urged the government to take necessary steps to make the President’s statement a reality.
