The Samagi Jana Balawegaya has requested the government to provide solutions to issues faced by the public promptly, prior to presenting a new Budget.
When inquired by NewsRadio regarding the statement made by Minister of Finance Basil Rajapaksa yesterday claiming a new Budget will be presented prior to the upcoming festive season, Parliamentarian JC Alawathuwala said the public cannot expect concessions through a new Budget, as concessions were not granted through the previous Budget either.
MP Alawathuwala noted prices of all goods have increased by threefold since the last Budget was presented three months ago, adding the price of a gas cylinder which was at Rs.1,900 is now Rs.4,000.
He added prices of fuel also increased, claiming the public will not benefit from a new Budget under the prevailing situation.
The MP further said ships carrying gas and fuel are held at the Port for several weeks as the government cannot make the required payment to unload the shipment as a result of the dollar shortage.
MP Alawathuwala noted the people are also suffering in queues to obtain gas and Kerosene oil.
