Minister of Energy Udaya Gammanpila says the public will be informed in advance if scheduled power cuts are imposed.

Speaking during the weekly Cabinet media briefing, Minister Gammanpila said to his knowledge the Ceylon Electricity Board has already complied a timetable on scheduled power cuts.

He said the country is facing an issue in sourcing foreign reserves adding it is impossible to determine how much foreign exchange will be sourced for the next couple of months.

Minister Gammanpila however said the government is of the policy decision that the limited foreign reserves will be used for medical equipment, medicines and fuel.

He said the government’s policy is to ensure a continuous supply of essential items despite a shortage of other goods.

Minister Gammanpila said the government hopes to inform the public ahead in the event a power cut is imposed if the government fails to achieve targets.
