Minister Mahinda Amaraweera says the public should expect more price increases in future since the entire globe is dealing with a health emergency.
Speaking to media, Minister Amaraweera noted that the income of the state has decreased steeply as the government has taken measures to provide concessions to the general public amidst the COVID-19 crisis.
Minister Amaraweera said the sharp increase of cost of living was discussed at length during the last Cabinet meeting.
Minister Mahinda Amaraweera said the coronavirus crisis has affected the entire globe and therefore the public cannot expect price drops during the prevailing climate.
He however claimed that the government has taken several measures to provide relief to the public and it has slashed taxes imposed on sugar, powdered milk and domestic gas.
Minister Mahinda Amaraweera said the public should come to terms with the reality and act accordingly since the world is dealing with a pandemic at present.
