The Ministry of Power requests the public to use electrical equipment that consume power efficiently in their homes.
Speaking to NewsRadio, Media Director Sulakshana Jayawardena requested the public to consider the cost during the lifetime of the electrical equipment adding that only considering the initial cost is insufficient when facing the prevailing power crisis.
He also requested the public to switch of lights when not in use and save electricity.
Jayawardena noted the highest demand for electricity is between 6.30pm and 9.30pm.
He urged the public to refrain from using electrical equipment including washing machines, irons and water motors unnecessarily during times when the electricity demand is high.
He further said all local authorities have been informed to use street lamps efficiently and turn of the lamps at the stipulated times.
