Leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa says issues faced by the public are increasing daily.
Speaking during a rally in Anuradhapura the Opposition Leader charged authorities and their associates of stealing state resources and funds, under the guise of COVID-19.
MP Premadasa said prices of essential items have risen sharply and those who were able to afford three meals in the past are now struggling to obtain two meals.
He claimed sources of income have depleted while the harvest has reduced by 50 percent in most areas.
He added gas cylinders and cookers are exploding while the liquid fertiliser bottles that were provided to farmers are also exploding.
The MP stated factories have closed, people have lost employment and youth are leaving the country.
MP Premadasa noted Sri Lanka is among the countries with the highest inflation, while poverty is on the rise and corruption and fraud is increasing.
Responding to those who criticise programmes he implements with the aim of expanding privileges of free education, MP Sajith Premadasa said such groups are against children of schools in rural areas receiving opportunities.
He added they are against such children receiving computers and smartphones for educational activities.
