Chief Government Whip Prasanna Ranatunga says as the Minister of Urban Development, he believes, protesters should be relocated from Galle Face.
Speaking in Parliament during the debate on emergency regulations today, Minister Ranatunga calling the group irresponsible individuals, said they must be removed from their current locations in order to curb irresponsible and illegal actions.
The Minister said everyone is hesitant to speak out against these individuals due to fear of personal property being set on fire and destroyed.
He said the protesters and their activities must be controlled adding failure to do so will result in unliveable conditions in the country for everyone.
The Minister said he is of stance that the situation must be controlled by any means necessary.
Minister Ranatunga added the location reserved for protests adjacent to the Presidential Secretariat is in no way suitable adding it was made clear by all recent events.
The Chief Government Whip informed Parliament that his attention has been directed towards the matter as the subject Minister.
Minister Ranatunga said the protesters must be removed from Galle Face, which is of economic importance and must be relocated to the Viharamahadevi Park adding the Leader of the Opposition can keep close contact with the protesters due to its close proximity to his office.
