The Sri Lanka Amarapura and Ramanna Sects have condemned the attack on peaceful protesters at Galle Face last Friday morning (22).

The Sangha Council issuing a statement expressed their displeasure over what they termed state sponsored terrorism, that was unleashed on a historical people’s struggle, of which the purpose was to eradicate a corrupt political culture.

The Council said at a time that the protesters had informed that they were evacuating the area, such an attack by the security forces is unjustified.

The Maha Sangha urged the government as a civilised nation to protect democracy and to refrain from violating human rights.
