A proposal will be presented to the Cabinet of Ministers today to obtain permission to purchase electricity from private power plants.
Minister of Power Gamini Lokuge is expected to table the Cabinet paper.
Minister Lokuge also said that the Ceylon Electricity Board has taken steps to purchase necessary fuel for the power plants directly from Lanka IOC.
The Minister said they are hoping to obtain necessary stocks for today and tomorrow from the Lanka IOC.
The Minister added a decision will be taken today on purchasing fuel that is needed for power plants to function next week.
Meanwhile, Minister of Education Dinesh Gunawardena had requested authorities not to impose power cuts from the 7th of next month.
He had requested not to impose power cuts until the completion of the GCE Advanced Level Examination.
