Leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa says promoting exports in the Information Technology sector is the best method to generate foreign exchange.
Speaking during an event in Avissawella, the Opposition Leader said the government and the country are bankrupt at present.
MP Premadasa said the opposition is committed to serving the country even if the government goes bankrupt.
He said IT sector exports at present are still at USD 1 billion adding it must be increased to USD 5 billion.
The Opposition Leader however said no one has worked towards achieving the target irrespective of campaign speeches.
He claimed the government is only capable of printing money.
The MP also called for the IT sector to be developed in at school level.
On a separate note, MP Premadasa requested the public to support cultivation efforts as a major food crisis has arisen at present.
He said the food crisis arose due to actions taken during the past two years.
The Opposition Leader said according to the government, the public is at fault for the prevalent situation.
He questioned if the public is at fault for the lack of dollars.
MP Premadasa said the government is calling for the cultivation of crops adding everyone must actively contribute toward food security.
He said the SJB and the Samagi Jana Alliance are ready to engage in a major cultivation effort.
