The JVP claims investigations pertaining to the May 9 violence are not taking place stringently.
Speaking during a media briefing this morning in Colombo, Propaganda Secretary of the party Parliamentarian Vijitha Herath said seven days have lapsed since violence erupted following an event at Temple Trees.
MP Herath noted however, legal action has not been taken against thugs involved in attacking peaceful protesters.
He noted several persons have been arrested for allegedly involved in events that followed after the attack on protesters in Colombo such as torching houses and vehicles.
The Parliamentarian said although they do not condone such actions, police has been arresting a number of persons across the country on various charges while only one individual has been apprehended for attacking protesters in Colombo.
He said Police and authorities should not have allowed thugs to enter the protest sites.
The MP said there are video footage of Senior DIG-Western Province Deshabandu Tennakoon being at the protest site but he did not prevent the thugs from attacking the protesters.
MP Vijitha Herath added that Police did not use tear gas and water cannon to disperse them. He said it is evident that they were biased towards thugs.
The JVP MP claimed that statements issued by Defence Ministry is inadequate as measures were taken to prevent people from attacking peaceful protesters opposite Temple Trees and Galle Face green on the 9th of May
