Minister of Ports & Shipping Rohitha Abegunawardhana has informed the Chairman of the Sri Lanka Ports Authority to conduct an investigation pertaining to the incident in which a group of media personnel were obstructed from carrying out their duties at a media briefing organized by MP Jayantha Samaraweera, who resigned from his post of State Minister of Warehouse Facilities, Container Yards, Port Supply Facilities and Boats and Shipping Industry Development.

Minister Rohitha Abegunawardhana informed the Chairman to submit a report regarding the incident within four days.

The Minister said while he was at the Parliamentary complex he was informed that security officials at the Sri Lanka Ports Authority prevented media personnel from entering the premises for a media briefing organized by former State Minister Samaraweera, after he left his post.

Minister Abegunawardhana added thereafter he informed the Chairman of the Ports Authority in writing to conduct a prompt investigation into the incident, to find out who the security officials on duty were at the time and who instructed them to prevent media personnel from entering the premises.

The Minister also condemned the incident adding he will take stern action against the relevant officials.
