The Free Trade Zone and General Services Employees Union says the private sector employees are severely burdened at present since companies have slashed salaries, suspended yearly increments and payment of festival advances.
Speaking to NewsRadio, General Secretary of the Union Anton Markus said they are planning to stage a strike since they cannot continue to function under current circumstances.
He said free trade zone employees played a key role to strengthen the economy during the coronavirus crisis while risking their own lives.
Anton Markus said despite their efforts, the government ignored them in the budget and now the company owners are also not paying attention to their concerns.
He said when employees demanded a Rs.10,000 salary increment they were granted just Rs. 1,400 monthly.
Anton Markus noted that they cannot continue to function under current circumstances especially due to the rise in cost of living.
He said they will be compelled to stage a mass protest if their demands are not met.
