The All Island Private Bus Owners Federation says bus fares will have to be increased in the event diesel prices are increased once again.

President of the Federation Anjana Priyanjith speaking to NewsRadio said they have received information of plans by the government to increase diesel prices.

He said private bus operators cannot remain patient until January next year to discuss bus fare revisions.

Priyanjith claimed in the event diesel prices are revised, bus fares will be increased the very next day.

The Lanka Private Bus Owners Association proposed the increase of the minimum bus fare to Rs.20 from the 1st of January 2022.

President of the Association Gemunu Wijeratne said a proposal in this regard will be handed over to the Ministry of Transport and the National Transport Commission next week.
