Private bus owners say they strongly condemn the attack on private buses during the unrest on the 9th of this month.
President of the Lanka Private Bus Owners Association Gemunu Wijeratne said approximately 40 buses were destroyed beyond use as they were battered and set alight by anti-government mobs.
He said violent groups attacked and stole parts from buses while police were present.
Wijeratne said insurance companies have informed him that the cover against mob attacks and terrorist incidents are being removed from the insurance cover.
He recalled how they did not operate private buses during the coronavirus pandemic, and added that this incident only worsened their woes.
He questioned why Sri Lankan people were acting violently when they are recognised as one of the most disciplined and educated countries in the world.
