The Lanka Private Bus Owners Association has reached a decision to limit the number of buses that will be in operation from Monday owing to the shortage of diesel.
President Gemunu Wijeratne said only one third of buses will function from Monday for a period of two weeks.
He said they were promised diesel through the Sri Lanka Transport Board, adding that regardless, they will have to limit services.
He stated this distribution process also has several issues.
He said only 6,000 buses will operate while directives have been issued to prepare bus timetables accordingly.
The bus operators previously informed that they will withdraw from services on Monday, with the increase in the Value Added Tax and the impact it will have on the bus industry.
Wijeratne said they decided to suspend the decision as schools are reopening for a new term on Monday.
