Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa has left for Italy on an official visit.
The Prime Minister and a Lankan delegation, including Foreign Minister Prof. GL Peiris left the island early this morning.
The Foreign Ministry in a statement said the Prime Minister will participate in an international event which will be attended by the Prime Minister of Italy and dignitaries from other European countries.
Prime Minister Rajapaksa is scheduled to deliver the keynote address at the opening session of the international symposium which will be held in one of Europe’s oldest seats of learning, the University of Bologna.
The government earlier said bilateral discussions will be held with high-ranking Italian officials during the visit.
The Prime Minister is also expected to apprise Italian officials of the progress pertaining to investigations into the 2019 Easter Sunday attacks.
