Bakery owners have decided to increase the price of a 450g loaf of bread by Rs.30 to Rs.140.
All other bakery products are expected to increase by at least Rs.10.
Speaking to NewsRadio, President of the All Island Bakery Owner’s Association NK Jayawardena said the decision was taken following the move to increase a kilogram of wheat flour by Rs.40.
Meanwhile, Canteen owners have announced that the price of a packet of Rice and Kottu will be increased by 20%.
The All Island Canteen Owners’ Association said prices have been revised following the move to increase prices of fuel and wheat flour.
Speaking to NewsRadio, Asela Sampath noted that without a price increase they cannot continue to function.
He claimed although the price revision affects the consumers, they are being left with no choice since the fuel price revision will result in the increase in vegetables, raw materials and transportation costs.
Asela Sampath noted however the prices of short eats will not be revised despite the fuel price hike.
