The Women’s Organisation for Justice charges the government of creating a major crisis that cannot be resolved.
The organisation said citizens should be provided immediate relief as they have been battered by the arbitrary actions of the government.
Former Western Provincial Councillor Nirosha Athukorala speaking at a media briefing yesterday said a major crisis has been created by the President and the Cabinet of Ministers with a severe shortage of essential items reported and prices of goods escalating steeply.
Athukorala said the prices of goods vary from store to store with rice prices having risen seven times.
She claimed that parents are unable to provide nutritious meals to children due to the high cost of living.
The Former Provincial Councillor said Minister of Trade Bandula Gunawardana stated that rice will be available at Rs.100 at Sathosa outlets, yet charged that shelves at Sathosa outlets are empty with no goods available.
She charged Ministers of making empty statements.
