Parliamentarian Patali Champika Ranawaka has requested candidates vying for the post of President to table their plans to address the country’s issues, within the next 24 hours.
Speaking at a media briefing, MP Ranawaka said nominations and elections will not be required if the people’s grievances had been understood.
He said a question remains if the leaders of political parties are aware and have understood the concerns of the citizens.
MP Ranawaka added under such circumstances, a President who is able to set aside political objectives, should be appointed, who can address public grievances.
However, MP Ranawaka said several candidates have come forward for the election and urged that they reveal their plans for the future.
He urged that they all reach a consensus and form an all-party government to set an example to the public by setting aside personal political objectives.
